Those present were as follows:

Pati and Rich Robitaille

Linda welcomed everyone and recited our mission statement. She also introduced the Board. She introduced Joe Marquez from Products for Independent Living. Joe described some of his products and offered to take special orders.
Linda recognized her neighbors, Pat and Jay Maines, who gave a nice donation to the chapter.
Linda introduced Mary Ann Epstein, our new webmaster. Mary Ann has volunteered her time to create our new website and had each of us pull it up on our smartphones to see how blind-friendly it was. She also received comments on colors and the format. She is open to any suggestions for improving the website.
Linda reported that Secretary Carla Ross is putting together a procedures manual, including a meeting model, which will be available for successive boards.
Treasurer’s report: Cynthia Thacker reported that we have $280.00 in petty cash. The OC Guide Dog account has $1,481.41. Today we collected $53.

Linda welcomed Kristi Gonzales and her new guide, Daisuke. Kristi told us about her experience in San Rafael and is really excited about her new adventure.
Kathy Blake, our vice president, asked everyone to say their names out loud. Once that was completed, she told us about a phone conversation she had with a Linda Weber about guide dog groups in Canada. Kathy will be in contact with Linda about sharing information between groups. Richard King suggested contacting Theresa Stern before travelling to different cities to find out if there is a guide dog group meeting which you could attend. It’s always nice to make that connection.
Bruce McDonald reported that the book “A Dog’s Purpose” is being made into a movie. It’s about life with a young boy from a dog’s point of view.
Next Linda introduced Sandy Dubin and her bearded collie “Reese.” Sandy spoke about different aspects of having a therapy animal. Sandy has been very generous with donations to our chapter, and was presented with a gift of a handmade fleece pawprint blanket with “OC Guide Dogs, 2016” embroidered on it, also a rhinestone pin and a small statue of a black lab with wings.
Linda reported that we are losing our church meeting space due to the prohibitive cost. She asked members to brainstorm other meeting placed which she will pursue.
Our next meeting is November 19, 2016 and our speaker will be a canine chiropractor.
Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
Carla Ross, Secretary
